Project “CuriAmo, ViviAmo, Let's participate in Sarno": monitoring of the territory with ARDEA and the local Legambiente Valle del Sarno “Leonia” club

New day ofcitizen science activities, action linked to volunteer camps by Legambiente belonging to the project "CuriAmo, ViviAmo, ParticipiAmo il Sarno” supported by the CON IL SUD Foundation. Last 28 July at the Park 5 Senses of Sarno, ARDEA volunteers, they accompanied a group of boys among the 14 e 22 years along the mouth of the Sarno River, to observe different species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Involvement activities in the monitoring of the territory took place in full compliance with the safety regulations established for Covid -19 – also thanks to the collaboration of the local Legambiente Valle del Sarno club “Leonia” – which saw the kids experience a day of training and awareness.

A day dedicated to the observation of different species, and that led to a pleasant surprise. On the banks of the Sarno River – often known in the news due to pollution – the group of kids and ARDEA volunteers witnessed and admired up close the presence of a friendly Italian water vole (Arvicola italicus the scientific name).

A truly important sighting, because it allowed the ARDEA group to find information on the aquatic rodent. Thank you, Indeed, to this very precious observation, which took place as mentioned on the banks of the Sarno river, numerous data were collected that will help the group not only study the cute rodent, to understand its distribution but also to train children on the protection of a truly rare species. An important result for Legambiente, ARDEA and the project “CuriAmo, ViviAmo, Let's participate in Sarno"supported by the CON IL SUD Foundation.
