Description:
BAG was created out of the need to fill a training gap in the field of sustainable tourism, particularly concerning students and young workers in vocational education and training.
The project aims to offer innovative and shared educational tools at European level to develop a new mindset focused on environmental, economic and social sustainability in tourism.
Through collaboration among training institutions, travel agencies, industry professionals, and host communities from three countries (Italia, Spain and Croatia), the project seeks to promote an integrated and inclusive approach, enhancing the human and cultural capital of tourist destinations.
The project idea aims to:
– Create a European training module (called "BAG module") to be tested within VET pathways;
– Produce a digital booklet containing best practices in sustainable tourism from the partner countries;
– Establish a virtual community for the continuous exchange of experiences and knowledge;
– Enhance the role of local communities, directly involved in the promotion of sustainable tourism.
Goals
The project aims to achieve several specific objectives:
– Raise awareness among students and young workers in the tourism sector about the environmental, cultural, and social impact of tourism;
– Define strategic professional skills in the field of sustainability, such as green managers, environmental guides, and community managers;
– Integrate the BAG training module into the VET courses of partner countries, with transversal and intercultural contents;
– Build a transnational network among public, private and third-sector actors, to foster mobility, exchange and cooperation;
– Promote inclusion, with particular attention to students with fewer opportunities.
Activity
– A comparative research study on sustainable tourism practices in the partner countries;
– The design of the BAG training module, tested and validated with the direct involvement of students and trainers;
– The implementation of a transnational virtual community, serving as a platform for dialogue between host communities and tourism operators;
– Dissemination events in each partner country, to promote the results and foster new synergies;
– Careful monitoring of sustainable practices in the project’s own management, in order to reduce its environmental impact.
Expected results
Through the planned activities, the BAG project aims to achieve significant outcomes::
– An increase in the green and intercultural skills of the young people involved;
– The adoption of the BAG module within vocational training pathways, with recognition at the European level;
– The dissemination of sustainable and replicable practices beyond the partner countries;
– The strengthening of dialogue between education and the labor market, with particular reference to the ecological transition of the tourism sector;
– The active involvement of the host communities, becoming key actors of change.
Communication and dissemination of results
The project communication strategy is designed to ensure wide visibility and impact:
– Results will be disseminated through digital channels, such as social media, newsletter and the BAG virtual platform;
– Public events and conferences will be organized to foster dialogue among stakeholders and promote the project materials;
– The digital handbook will be available online, in multiple languages, to reach a broad and diverse audience;
– Each partner will contribute to dissemination at local, national and European levels, thanks to their own networks and skills.
Conclusions
The BAG project is part of the Erasmus+ programme, addressing the challenges of sustainable tourism in Europe..
It is inspired by the European Green Deal and aims to adapt vocational education and training (VET) to the new needs of the labor market.
It involves Mediterranean partners to develop shared and transferable solutions, strengthening regional resilience.
Despite its small scale, it seeks to generate a systemic impact, by creating a European network and integrating transnational content into VET.
The key element is the enhancement of human capital and "green" skills, aligned with the ESCO framework to improve employability and sustainability.
