SHREDDED – New Legambiente appointment on the Sarno river. As part of the projectCuriAmo, ViviAmo, Let's participate in Sarno supported byWITH THE SOUTH Foundation having as the leaderLegambiente, the guys from the Italian environmental association went to the city of Scafati, to analyze the waters of the Sarno River.
The appointment, took place last 14 maggio, it served not only to illustrate the methods of water analysis, but also to talk about the relationship of the citizens of Scafati with the Sarno River. They also participated in the eventAlessandro Arpaia, Councilor with responsibility for the Sarno River of the Municipality of Scafati eCarmine Ferrara, member of the scientific and citizen committee of Scafati.

With the help of a probe and a multiparameter it was possible to collect some data regarding the monitoring of the health status of the waters of the Sarno River, at the point where it passes through the city of Scafati. The multiparameter highlighted that dissolved oxygen in water is fundamental, together with other parameters such as ammoniacal and nitric nitrogen to obtain the LIMECO index, useful for understanding the quality of the water – there are approx 3,08 mg per liter. Too low a number, which means a terrible state of health for the waters of the Sarno. Indeed, just think that a river in excellent condition, has dissolved oxygen in the waters 9 mg/l.
In addition to the measurements carried out with the multiparameter, the guys from Legambiente after collecting a sample, carried out analyzes of the waters of the Sarno river. The results showed that the waters of the Sarno River, affecting most of the Campania municipalities, present inside them, as well as a high quantity of microplastic substances, also numerous substances harmful to health. Toxic and harmful substances that land from the various discharges present along the river route. This situation leads one of the most important stretches of water in Campania to be in a pitiful state.
